Google Business Profile is FREE!

April 7, 2022 by Ray

As it becomes increasingly difficult (and more expensive) to achieve a first page listing on Google, optimizing your Google Business Profile grows in significance. Formerly known as a “Google My Business” listing, creating your profile is free, but quite a valuable SEO tool!

What is a Google business profile?

As the leading website directory notes:
“Google Business Profile is an easy-to-use tool for businesses and organizations to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. To help customers find your business, and to tell them your story, you can verify your business and edit your business information.”

First Page of Results

Even if your business or organization website ranks poorly, you can become visible by claiming one of the top 3 spots on the Google Map that appears just under paid results for a search such as “web designer in Wilmington” or “roofer in my area”. This “Local 3-Pack” appears above organic listings! A new business can create their own GBP profile from scratch, where an existing business can claim a default listing that Google creates itself over time. Once established, you can add or correct information including NAP (name, address, phone), web address, business category, business hours, area served and brief description of products and services.

Customer Reviews Improve Visibility

One of the best ways to attract more views is to request customer reviews by directing happy clients to the listing to leave a review. And because the reviews can’t be changed except for by the reviewer, prospective customers know that they are legitimate. Plus, the business owner can reply to reviews to show interaction. On my clients’ websites, I create a direct link from the Testimonials page to the listing, to make it easier to receive reviews.
Google Reviews

How to create your listing

  1. Go to Google and enter business name exactly how you want it to appear on your website and everyplace else. Don’t use “Attraction LLC” in one place and call yourself “Attraction, LLC” or “Attraction Web Design” in a different search engine.
  2. Fill our all additional info (best to copy and paste) such as address, phone, and then search for your main category.
  3. Upon entering this basic info, you’ll be directed to Verify your listing via your phone or a google postcard mailed to the physical address or another way. Only after verification is complete will your listing appear in Maps or farther down the list.
  4. Before or after successful verification, add photos, a business description and interesting tidbits such as if you are Woman Owned, Veteran Owned and Date Opened.
  5. Once live, direct happy customers to review you. You will receive email notification for each review and can then reply to the review and even copy it on to your website!
  6. For extra credit, create Posts to advertise or share specials and other business news (similar to a Facebook post). Scroll down for details.

Add Posts to boost your profile

Website marketingIncreased activity helps improve your profile rank, so besides regularly adding reviews and photos, you can create Posts (short articles) anytime. As noted at Innovation Visual:
“You will be able to upload an image, write up to 300 words of text or an event title, which should include the start/end date.

There is then an option to add a call-to-action with a variety of button choices including ‘Learn more’, ‘Reserve’, ‘Sign up’, ‘Buy’ and ‘Get offer’.

The post option gives you great flexibility to promote events, share your content and promote your products or services, highlighting when you are running special offers.”

Proven Results

As noted at LOCALiQ:

  • 56% of actions on Google My Business listings are website visits. 24% of actions are calls to the business. And 20% of actions are direct searches.
  • 64% of consumers have used Google My Business to find contact details for a local business.

21 Top Website Tips for 2021

October 20, 2020 by Ray

I think we can all agree that 2021 has got to be a better year than 2020!
Prepare for a great business year by improving your website in order to attract more customers. Here are 21 best website ideas to bring you more traffic and more sales:

  1. Include location names for the geographic area you serve. They are critical keywords that help you rank higher in local search, and often omitted. Cities, towns, counties, regions.
  2. Title tag in browser bar is among most important ranking factors. Include the words people type in to find you, up to 57 characters. Business name, primary products & services.
  3. Keyword(s) in page headline are also critical for SEO. “Welcome to our website” or “Hello!” don’t attract visitors. Use words people search for, like “Wilmington Contractor…”
  4. Lodging website for guest house

  5. YouTube video – create a short 30-60 second marketing video and upload to your [free] youtube account. Then easily embed it in website. Visitors like it. Google likes it.
  6. News page instead of blog (which needs consistent posting). Use a blog format for ease of use, but post anything from brief comments, tweets and announcements to news articles.
  7. Accept online payments using PayPal or similar credit card processing to take a deposit to make prospects commit or sell a product before they lose interest.
  8. Bullet point lists can never be used too much. They employ less words, but the keywords and your key points stand out. Much easier for visitors to scan than long paragraphs of text.
  9. Lots of sub-headings help people navigate your pages more quickly than reading blocks of content. Plus, you can include keywords in both subheading and the paragraph under it.
  10. Image Optimization -Photos should be representative of the page text and include search terms in file name, alt text (for vision impaired), title, description and caption.
  11. Call To Action (CTA) should be incorporated at least once in every single page of website. Call Now, Contact Us (linking to your contact form), Join Our List, Visit Our Store…
  12. Concise Navigation Menu reduces confusion. With only a few seconds to scan your page, fewer choices are better. And on mobile, we’d rather scroll than click.
  13. Slideshows quickly show visitors what you offer. Add a title to each slide and link to click to the appropriate page, product or service— where you place your Call To Action.
  14. Opt-in forms help you gather email addresses to build your list. Offer a “free report”, special discount, monthly newsletter or other bonuses to make it valuable.
  15. landscaping lawn care websites

  16. Customer Reviews are a huge selling tool. Testimonials from others are like a personal referral to your business, so include some on your Home page. See my reviews page.
  17. SSL Certificate is now necessary for every website. It removes the “not secure” in Chrome browser bar and helps rank. Change http to https so your visitors trust you more.
  18. Mobile-first. Since more than half of your visitors may be viewing on their phone. Place critical content and signature images early on every page. Place details lower.
  19. Multimedia improves search rank. Images, videos, PDF’s, other media may act as a content quality signal for google and are helpful to humans, besides making pages pretty.
  20. Internal links from one page to another on your site help visitors jump to what they seek and also help your SEO. So when listing your categories in text, make them links!
  21. NAP – Name, Address & Phone of business should appear on each page, usually in footer. It should exactly match in each search engine, directory, social media channel.
  22. Keywords in footer help you sneak in important search terms an extra time, which makes Google happy! Site footer/copyright is on every page in small print, so just add to it.
  23. Privacy Policy page is important, even if just linked to in footer. It puts visitors at ease and is legally becoming more critical for your own protection.

All of the above are included in websites by Webmaster Ray, at my unbeatable prices.
